Hand-built picture frames

Our hand-built picture frames are carefully cut by hand and hand-joined, a rarity in today’s custom framing landscape. What does that mean for your piece? Hand-building frames allows for extra attention to detail, meaning that your finished item will be high-quality and long-lasting.

Various matting and frame options are laid out in the design process.

Consultation and Design

Our consultation and design process is unique and personal. Unlike other frame shops, our framing associates guide you through the design process and actually frame your pieces on-site. They have an extensive knowledge of materials, archival solutions, and frame styles to help guide you through the selection of a perfect frame. Therieau Art and Frame is a small shop where we pay personal attention to each of our customers. Don’t feel intimidated if this will be your first time getting a piece custom framed! We’ll talk through the whole process and figure out the design that fits your style and the space in which it will hang.

Framing associates compare different mat and frame choices on a print.

Many other frame shops use consultants who don’t have any involvement in the framing process. They may even ship your artwork off-site to be framed, meaning that there is no direct communication between design consultants and the folks that frame your artwork. At Therieau Art and Frame, our consultants actually do the framing in the back of our shop! They are intimately acquainted with your artwork and design needs, and are able to bring your vision to life.

Archival Glass Options

Learn more about your options when it comes to glass! We offer UV-protection glass, as well as Art Glass, a high-clarity glass with UV-protection. Protecting your artwork from UV rays will ensure a longer lifetime and minimize fading. UV-protection glass blocks 99% of UV-rays, preserving the vibrancy and color saturation of your artwork. Art Glass also minimizes disruptive reflections and glare, and optimizes light transmission for the most vibrant possible appearance of your artwork.

We also offer acrylic glazing (plexiglass) for artwork that will hang in childrens’ bedrooms or play areas. Pop in to switch out regular glass in existing frames to UV-protection glass! The process is quick and painless, so you can breathe easier knowing your artwork is protected.

Double mats are cut to show a pop of color.

Mat Cutting

With a wide array of matting options, we cut each mat by hand. Check out our options for double matting, floating, spacers, and even multi-color mat reveals. Mats can complement your piece, as well as acting as an important archival protection for certain types of art. We can also float mount your piece, building a mat board platform to elevate your art work in the frame. Floating gives your framed piece dimension and is a great alternative to traditional matting.

Stretched Canvasses

Stretching a canvas is critical for proper care of a painting or digital canvas and protects the paint surface from cracking or warping. We’ve stretched tens of thousands of canvasses featuring many different mediums in various conditions. We hand-cut and join your stretcher bars for a perfect, well-tailored fit.

Sew-Ons

If you have a prized jersey, your grandmother’s wedding dress, or anything else with fabric elements, we can frame it using a sew-on method. We will carefully hand-stitch your item to archival matboard backing, before framing it. The threads are nearly invisible, giving your sewn-on piece a seamless finish. Many other shops utilize destructive tagging guns or irreversible adhesives when framing fabric pieces, which can alter and even destroy your piece over time. We’re committed to providing an archival sew-on process that is fully reversible, through the careful hand sewing process.

Several objects used in crafting are framed in an object box.
